Class will be held at EUR campus Woudestein and will start on Monday, November 4th at 18h00.
Creativity is not inherent, but fully trainable. In today's rapidly changing world, the ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively sets you apart. According to the World Economic Forum, Creativity is related to 9 of the top 10 skills that global executives say are essential for 2020 and beyond. 🌍
Are you eager to unlock your potential and excel in a world that values innovation and adaptability? 🌟Forbes reports that innovative thinking is a key trait sought after by employers worldwide, as it leads to breakthroughs and progress. 📈
In this 6-week course, you'll master tools and mindsets to unlock your creativity for problem-solving. You will learn how to navigate and lead through complex problem-solving process with innovative approaches, reflect on personal biases, and apply your newfound skills to a societal issue that matters to you. You will collaborate with peers to identify, analyse, and creatively tackle a societal issue of your choice, culminating in actionable solution idea(s).
You'll meet your trainer, your group and reflect on your own creative ability. We will explore what creativity, creative problem solving, and creative thinking are; and ultimately understand that that creativity is not inherent but trainable. You’ll get introduced to first problem exercises that will challenge your standard approach to solving problems.
You will learn about different problem-solving strategies and how to match them to the right problem. You’ll also pick the societal challenge you'll tackle in the course and we'll explore how creativity can help. We will learn about iCPS (integrated Creative Problem Solving) developed at TU Delft, that we will follow for the rest of the course.
Before trying to solve the problem, you need to fully understand it. In this week you’ll explore tools for problem analysis, problem definition, and reflect on your creative biases in problem understanding. You will apply this to the societal problem that you selected, and we will narrow it down to an actionable problem statement.
Great ideas can change the world. It’s time to generate yours and have an impact! The main goal of this week will be to generate as many ideas as possible. You will apply different methods of idea generation (variations of brainstorming, SCAMPER, mind mapping, etc.) to your chosen problem.
Once ideas are on paper, it’s time to prototype them to find which one works, and which one works the best. We will explore different fidelity prototypes to test selected aspects of your ideas before fully committing to them. You’ll also create a plan on how to test your solution idea for your chosen societal issue.
In the final session, you will pitch your prototype solution for your societal issue, and we want to hear all about the process that got you there. You will also reflect on the process and how to apply Creative Thinking and Problem Solving in the future.
